Hello to everyone who has joined the forum so far! I am currently writing an article entitled "UFO's: Why Believe" the article is about why so many people believe in the UFO subject. It would be really helpful to get a wide range of different reasons from a variety of people. It would be a great aide to the writing of this article if you could perhaps post your reasons for having a belief in the UFO subject and indeed the extraterrestrial hypothesis. Everyone’s help will be noted within the article when its written. Thanks in advance! Sam.

Why Believe? Because the evidence is great enough to merit belief.
IMO Roswell is the touchstone event.
It holds a fascination few other incidents can match. The shear number of witnesses, and the blatent lies and coverup attempts by the US Military brings the idea of UFOs and ETs into clear focus.
From the story we get: 1) ET spacecraft exist 2) ET technology is FAR advanced of our own. 3) EBEs as humanoid lifeforms are characterized. 4) Wreckage has been captured and studied by the US Military and/or MIC.
Sorry, the balloon theory is just to much to swallow. The witnesses are credible, the story has remained unshaken, and lame attempts at coverup show there is something to the whole affair.
Other events, such as Betty and Barney Hill, The Allagash Incident, Rendelshem Forest encounter, and others all add weight to my belif that "we are not alone".

You should mention the "top 10 UFO cases" documentary, as these cases apparently present the best evidence for UFOs. By the, Roswell didn't make it into the top 10. The list of the best UFO cases was based on multiple UFO experts' opinions, such as Stanton Friedman and Nick Redfern, to name just two.
By the way, 10 is less convincing, 1 is most convincing.
10: Nuremberg UFO battle (1561) 9: Skylab UFO incident (1973) 8: "Giant UFO" in Yukon territory (1996) 7: Malmstrom Air Force Base UFO incident - UFO disables nukes (1967) 6: Shag Harbour (1967) 5: 1953 - UFO seen from U2 spyplane 4: 1950 - Paul Trent UFO photographs 3: Rendlesham/RAF Benthingyers-Woodbridge incident (1980) (yay!) 2: Iranian "UFO dogfight" (1976) 1: RB-47 UFO incident (1957)
Don't forget the sheer number of UFO reports over the last 60 years.
You've chosen a large topic to write about Sam - there are many reasons to believe in UFOs! Good luck with your article.

I believe because of all the stuff that you can see in a UFO sighting that can't be explained. I have read and listened to both sides and think that the skeptics are trying to find answers, but aren't looking 'outside the box' so to speak. They are only looking for reasons that can be explained scientifically. Well, some stuff can't be explained scientifically.
Government documents also made me a believer when I read them. Can't believe how much of the stuff is blacked out. It is just rediculous. If they aren't hidding anything, then why black the paragraphs out? Nobody can convince me that they aren't hidding anything.
Alien abductions are another one. Sure, some people can dream that they were abducted and that be the case. However, how do we explain the implants in the body and they marks that are left after the abduction? I would think that people would remember getting something put in their bodies that was metal or a chip of some kind.
By the way JH, I like your list, but I would swap the Rendlesham forest UFO sighting with the RB-47 UFO Incident. I believe that Rendlesham is the biggest UFO encounter in modern day.
